Strasbourg, 20 October 2010 : Representatives of the 47 Council of Europe member States, the European Commission, OSCE and the European Roma and Travellers Forum (ERTF) gathered in Strasbourg to reaffirm their commitments toward their Roma citizens. They also unanimously condemned widespread discrimination against Roma, which prevent them from enjoying all the rights to which they are entitled as citizens of the EU Community.

As you may be aware, Ministers from the Council of Europe member states and representatives of other organisations will meet in Strasbourg on 20 October to discuss the situation of the estimated 11 million Roma living in Europe today.

As you may be aware, Ministers from the Council of Europe member states and representatives of other organisations will meet in Strasbourg on 20 October to discuss the situation of the estimated 11 milion Roma living in Europe today.

The President od the European Roma and Travellers Forum, Mr. Rudko Kawczynski, is invited to participate to represent the European Roma voice and will be give the floor at the Press Conference afterwards.

Mr. Kawczynski welcomes the initiative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Jagland, in holding this meeting, stating that "chances should be taken now and by all of us working to improve the situation of the Roma. Actions to combat Anti-Gypsyism must finally become a top priority. The significant gaps that continue to divide Roma communities from mainstream society must be addressed. We must begin taking chances, now and in the future, for everyone's future."

Roma Holocaust/Pharrajimos Remembrance Day in Strasbourg

Strasbourg, 2 August 2010: With a minute of silence being held at noon beside the Holocaust memorial stone in front of the Palais de l’Europe in Strasbourg, the ERTF remembered more than 3,000 Roma exterminated by the German Nazis during the night of 2-3 August 1944 in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité….. for Travellers too?

Strasbourg, 26th July 2010: Following the dramatic events in Saint Aignan and in view of the forthcoming Elysée meeting convened by President Sarkozy on 28th July, the European Roma and Travellers Forum calls on France to consider all of its citizens as equals and not to single out Travellers as one of the root causes of society’s ills.
